87 AVIATION VIEW APRIL 2021 WAUSAU DOWNTOWN A I RPORT Innovation in Distribution PREMIER BRANDS MANUFACTURED BY WAUSAU SUPPLY CO. Our 26-year partnership with Wausau Downtown Airport (AUW), has allowed Wausau Supply Co. to expand from five distribution facilities in the Midwest to 18 facilities across the country. The support of AUW continues to enable us to meet premium building material demands by influencing the speed of establishing new manufacturing and distribution facilities —most notably, four new facilities that extended our product offering into America’s Western and Southeastern regions. From all of us at Wausau Supply Co., Thank You Wausau Downtown Airport for years of world-class service and for setting us up for future success! WAUSAUSUPPLY.COM original owners were trying to expand into other areas of the country. They still use our airport for their aircraft and that community relationship has been a big part of our growth as an airport.” Wausau Supply Co. can’t thank the Wausau Downtown Airport enough for their continued partnership and support over the last 26 years. Ron Klimisch, son of Wausau Supply Co. co- founder, Conrad Klimisch, started flying out of Wausau Downtown Airport in 1995. He would rent planes from Wausau Flying Service to get to Detroit Lakes, because at that time, you still had to drive through Abbotsford and Chippewa Falls; total drive time was nine hours. Ron was able to fly a Cessna 172 in a little less than three hours. The next facility they opened was in Rochelle, IL because they had an airport. Since then, all facility location considerations required access to an airport. What started with one distribution facility in 1947 expanded to five by the end of the 1990s. Wausau Supply Co.
