2 AVIATION VIEW VOLUME 1, ISSUE 2 Welcome to Aviation View! Welcome aviators, aviation colleagues and all whose lives are enriched by our remarkable industry! It’s interesting how dramatic events necessitate change, initiate new life in the environment around us and, eventually, make us better than before. When a volcano’s eruption suddenly changes the landscape around it, removing what was once very familiar, there remains a vast area of fertile ground that becomes a land of opportunity where seeds can be planted and new growth can flourish. So it is with moving forward after a global pandemic that has affected us all and our industry. Reports are continually pouring into my office of airports seeing faster rebounds than expected in areas of commercial passenger traffic, business aviation travel, and fuel sales topping former pre-pandemic records! Air cargo is also returning to pre-pandemic levels this year, with cargo carriers adding exponential workforce and equipment resources to keep up with the ever-increasing demand from e-commerce consumers. Commercially, most aircraft that have been parked in “flight-ready” condition, remaining in “active maintenance” to expedite their return to full service, are taking to the skies in increasing numbers. Several airlines are expediently converting their fleets from older models to newer aircraft that are more technologically advanced, with a diligent focus on safety and sustainability. This has produced a hotbed of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) opportunities for several companies, while simultaneously providing a wealth of opportunity for aftermarket professionals who are now inundated with aircraft and parts that were retired through the transition. With total global passenger departures predicted to climb back to 2.8 billion throughout 2021, airlines have repositioned themselves for an absolute travel revival. Domestic travel has already seen significant increases, which in turn, is seeing dynamic fluxes of tourism and economic development throughout numerous cities and counties, with corporate and personal relocation leading the charge. With several regions experiencing a record real estate boom, State, City and County officials are immersed in diligent community development initiatives and tourism campaigns to attract their share of incoming families and businesses. More than ever before, our municipal, regional, industrial, and international airports remain vital gateways and economic drivers for their growing communities. They have become the fresh, new, fertile ground that is being transformed into a land of opportunity where new seeds can be planted, roots of new opportunities can run deep, and the new growth of family, business, and communities can flourish and soar to new heights. So, chart those destinations, make those long-awaited travel plans and pack your bags my friends, you are now cleared for take-off!
